Last Night A Thank You Saved My Life

Well, not exactly. But the title might as well be true.

Gratitude is such a powerful thing. To many, it’s what we do when we’re priming ourselves to receive more favours.

But to me, it’s simply a show of surrender. A surrender to fate. It’s what I do when I want to acknowledge that there’s a higher power controlling things. And there must be a reason he has allowed some things to happen.

It’s like saying: ‘I didn’t want or expect this but it’s alright, I’ll bear the pain, hurt, disappointment.’

I kinda say ‘thank you’ more when I am met with disappointment though. For some reason it brings me soccour. It’s my way of saying: ‘Yes, it has happened, but I know there’s a reason for it.’ Sometimes, it means, ‘It’s alright, I know I deserved it anyway.’

I’ve had many of those moments in the last few years. Moments of dashed expectations. And at the same time, seasons of clarity and revelations.

I would have loved to add that it is also a time for learning about life. Lessons that will help me relate with people and issues better. But that would be untrue. They’re just what they are — disappointments.

The only way I’ve survived is to expect it — which I believe is sad in itself — then say a big thank you to the Universe for allowing it.

What else can one do? Surprisingly though, anytime I do this I feel better. So my appreciation gets the job done, doesn’t it? feigns a smile

This is to more ‘Thank yous’, and hopefully I’ll be using them for the exact purpose they were meant for — to appreciate love, kindness, and met expectations.
